(The Gear Loop) - Moots is a premium bike maker based in the picturesque surroundings of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. It has been making beautifully hand-finished titanium bikes and components since 1981.
The latest Vamoots CRD is its first fully integrated road bike, which means it has beautifully stashed any whiff of a cable inside the frame and cockpit, making it the most purposeful and complete road bike it has ever made.
Highly customisable, it’s not possible to simply configure a bike and receive it a few days later, as the team likes to build complete packages that perfectly suit the rider. The process involves securing a build slot, getting measured up, selecting a dream list of components and then waiting while everything is assembled.
The CRD is designed to represent the pinnacle of titanium-based performance and packs a double-butted RSL tube set for a "light, crisp ride". Add in 3D printed dropouts that save weight, add stiffness at the rear wheel and offer perfect brake caliper alignment, while an integrated cockpit cleans everything up further.
It may come as no surprise that even "basic" Shimano Ultegra Di2 builds come in at over $13,000, while range-topping SRAM Red AXS models top $15,000.
But these include Enve wheels, Selle Italia saddles, Chris King Aero headsets, Lizard skins tyres and personalised finishes, so no two bikes look the same.
If that sounds like a bit of you, European distributor Saddleback can reserve you a slot for as little as £9,800. Time to get saving.
